I am primarily interested in phonology and its interfaces (primarily with phonetics and morphology). I also pursue work on signed languages and Optimality Theory.
More specifically, I often think about these ideas and questions:
I have also been known to think about DP syntax, especially regarding DP-internal ellipsis in Spanish.
I am currently thinking about incomplete neutralization and its implications for the phonetics/phonology interface. (This handout, from my talk at the 34th Penn Linguistics Colloquium, is representative). At the moment, I am focusing on flapping in American English, whose status as a case of incomplete neutralization is somewhat in question. My current experimental work intends to shed some light on this debate, as well as to determine how the particular experimental tasks used in this sort of research affect the reported results.
I am also a member of the Rutgers Phonetics and Field Research Laboratory.
